Gastroesophageal reflux disease

 

GORD

It is not a common cause of unexplained crying, irritability, or distressed behaviour in otherwise healthy infants

It rarely requires investigations

Clinical features

Refusal to feed

Irritability

Aspiration

Feeding difficulties

Poor growth

Chronic cough

Investigation

Rarely needed.

Barium contrast radiography rarely performed- A pediatrician decision

Management

Holding the infant in a head elevated position for 20–30 minutes after feeding

Omeprazole suspension

Use of Milk thickening agents

Trial of exclusion of cow milk protein.  40% of infants presenting with symptoms of GORD may have non-IgE mediated Cow Milk Protein Allergy
