It is non-melanoma skin cancer

It can be invasive

It can sometimes metastasize and can be life-threatening

Located on sun-exposed sites, particularly the face, lips, ears, hands, forearms, and lower legs

Risk factors

Mainly seen in the elderly but young age group can be affected

Previous history of Basal cell carcinoma, Squamous cell carcinoma, and melanoma

Actinic keratosis

Fair skin

Smoking

In people working outdoor such concreter, farmers, etc

Immunosuppression

Organ transplant recipients

Clinical features

SCC appears as scaly and crusted lumps with +/- ulceration

SCC grows over weeks to months

SCC can be tender or painful

Clinical diagnosis

Biopsy

Management

Excision with 3-10 mm diameter

Shave, curettage, and electrocautery

Cryotherapy for very small tumours

Prevention

Stay indoors or under the shade in the middle of the day

Wear full sleeve clothing, broad brim hat

Apply sunscreen SPF50+
