Inflammatory condition of the joints
Can affect any joint but most commonly knees a d ankles are affected
Occurs 2–6wk after a bacterial infection
Gastroenteritis (Salmonella, Campylobacter)
Genitourinary infection (chlamydia, gonorrhoea)
Painful and swollen joints, usually in the ankles or knees
Conjunctivitis
Rash
Diarrhoea
Urethral discharge
Clinical diagnosis
Further testing can be done depending on the likely cause of the symptoms such as
Chlamydia direct examination
Gonorrhoea PCR,
Stool MCS and PCR
Joint aspirate
NSAIDs
Physiotherapy
Treat the underlying cause
