Incubation period is around 5 days

Clinical features

High-grade fever up to 39-degree centigrade

Myalgia

Extreme body ache, muscle, bone, and joint pain

Headache

Nausea

Vomiting

Pain behind the eyes

Maculopapular rash on limbs and trunk

 

 

Complications

Dengue Hemorrhagic fever is characterized by

Severe abdominal pain

Bleeding from your gums

Epistaxis

Vomiting

Haematuria

PR bleed

Bruising

Investigations

Dengue serology- IgM

FBE- Leucopenia and thrombocytopenia- mainly in the case of Hemorrhagic fever which is a complication of dengue fever.

Management

Admit to hospital

IV fluids

Analgesia- Panadol

Preventive advice

Avoid going out after dusk

Use mosquito repellent.

Sleeping properly screen rooms.

Use mosquito nets.

Wear light-coloured clothing with long sleeves.

Avoid perfumes
