Henoch- Schonlein pupura

 Commonest vasculitis of children

Generally, follows upper respiratory tract infection / Group A streptococcal tonsillitis

Cam affect all ages, mainly children

Clinical features

Non-thrombocytopenic purpura. (Palpable purpura both lower limb/ buttocks region)

The rash can sometimes occur in arms/ hands

Abdominal pain (due to vasculitis of the gastrointestinal tract)

Large joint arthritis (ankles, knees)

Haematuria (nephritis)

Investigations

FBE

Urine: Protein + blood

Management

Symptomatic treatment

Analgesia- Panadol

Prednisolone

Complications

Nephrotic syndrome

Bowel obstruction

Gastrointestinal ischemia/ haemorrhage
